1839- Grant attends U.S. Military Academy at West Point.
1843- Ulysses S. Grant graduates from West Point, and joins the Fourth Infantry Regiment in Missouri.
1844- Grant's Regiment is ordered to Western Louisiana.
1845- Grant served under General Zachary Taylor, and General Winfield Scott in the Mexican- American war.
1846- Grant fought in the Battle of Palo Alto in Texas, and he fought in the Battle of Resaca De Palma.
1847- Grant fought in the Battle of Cerro Gordo (this is the time American forces occupied Mexico City).
1848- Grant was boosted up to First Lieutenant upon returning to America, and he marries Julia Dent.
